Creativity and change are two constant themes in my life. Engaging in creative activities is my meditative practice. Honoring and facilitating change is and has always been a foundation of my work. Professionally, I have had a long and fascinating career in the area of organizational change management. While my roles over the years have been varied, all have had the same foundation: how to listen and support people and organizations when experiencing significant changes. My interest in creativity led to designing and delivering workshops on creativity in the workplace as a way to encourage people to be open to change – both in their work and in themselves. In recent years I have focused on supporting older adults to honor them in a way that acknowledges their life journey. This included a year as a program manager spending time with residents living with dementia, and five years working for an inspiring organization that provides housing to low-income older adults.
In my personal life, I find joy when I play with color. For many years, I enjoyed making quilts. Recently I decided to learn how to paint. I started with watercolors and am now experimenting with acrylics and collage. Playing with color is a form of meditation for me. Working with my hands, exploring how the colors change and interact with one another all serve my creative spirit and make me happy.
I recently completed a course of study at the University of Vermont as an end-of-life doula. An end-of-life doula is someone who offers to be a companion to those (and their loved ones) who are approaching the final phase of their life. I’m excited to find ways to integrate my passion for creativity with values deeply held by end-of-life doulas.
